The Standard Visitation ScheduleAlthough there is no standard visitation schedule, there is a commonly used visitation schedule when the parties are not overly detailed. That schedule typically consists of alternating holidays, alternating weekends and one day during the week. It basically provides for visitation for the non-custodial party, however, it does not detail vacations times, summer breaks and Christmas breaks from school. The standard type of visitation schedule works well with parties that have been implementing such a schedule for a period of time before any court orders. In those cases, the parties already have a working arrangement and do not typically need the detail found in highly contested cases. In addition to the schedule set forth above, I like to provide a statement that visitation shall also be had at any other time agreed upon by the parties. This will provide the flexibility to deviate from the normal schedule if the parties see fit to do so.
